Dr Oscar Noel Ocho

Dr Oscar Noel Ocho started off his career as a Nursing Assistant Trainee, at San
Fernando General Hospital in 1981. He is also a qualified RN and currently serves as the
Director, University of the West Indies School of Nursing (UWISoN), St Augustine as
well as Director, PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre (Nursing Leadership and Policy). He
was a public servant for 34 years prior to joining the Faculty at UWI. Dr Ocho is a
Population Leadership Fellow, University of Washington and a Caribbean Health
Leadership Institute Scholar.
 
 
His academic qualifications include a BScN (Education) UWI, Mona, Jamaica 1995;
MPH (International Health) University of Washington, Seattle, USA 2005, MPhil in
Sociology UWI, St. Augustine, Trinidad 2007 and the Doctorate in Public Health with an
emphasis on Public Health and Policy, University of London, 2013. Dr Ocho has been
recently selected as a member of the Commission On Graduates of Foreign Nursing
Schools (CGFNS) International Global Health Workforce Development Institute
Advisory Committee. He has 24 peer-reviewed publications, 4 book chapters and 200
citations. His research interests include health systems, leadership and gender and health.
He has been married for the past 35 years to Mrs Pauline Craigwell Ocho, a retired Nurse
Educator.
